Liam Payne’s girlfriend says they planned to marry

A week after his death, Liam Payne’s girlfriend Kate Cassidy is revealing the pair’s marriage plans.
On Wednesday, the social media influencer posted a carousel of photos of the pair on Instagram, including a heartfelt letter written for her late boyfriend. Payne died Oct. 16 after falling off a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
She shared a note Payne wrote for her, writing that “a few weeks ago, we sat outside on a beautiful evening manifesting our lives together. I keep your note close, even though you told me not to look at it.
“It said, ‘Me and Kate to marry within a year/engaged & together forever 444.’ Liam, I know we’ll be together forever, but not in the way we had planned. You will always be with me. I’ve gained a guardian angel,” she wrote.

The One Direction alum died at 31. The day he passed, the reception head at Argentina’s Casa Sur hotel had called emergency services for a “conscious” guest “who is intoxicated by drugs and alcohol” and “breaking the whole room” in a call obtained by Reuters on Oct. 17.
Cassidy started her post to Payne by saying: “I don’t even know where to begin. My heart is shattered in ways I can’t put into words. I wish you could see the huge impact you’ve had on the world, even as it feels so dark right now. You brought me so much happiness and positivity to everyone — millions of fans, your family, friends, and especially me.”
“You are so incredibly loved,” Cassidy said in her note, adding that she’ll love Payne “for the rest of my life and beyond, carrying our dreams and memories with me everywhere I go.”
Cassidy previously mourned the loss of Payne in an Instagram post on Oct. 18, days after her late boyfriend’s death.
“I have been at a complete loss. Nothing about the past few days have felt real,” she wrote on her Instagram Story at the time. “I ask and pray that you’ll give me the grace and space to navigate this in private.”
She added in her Instagram Story statement: “Liam, my angel. You are everything. I want you to know I loved you unconditionally and completely. I will continued to love you for the rest of my life. I love you Liam.”
The influencer, who boasts over 700,000 followers on Instagram, and “Strip That Down” singer, went public with their relationship in 2022. Cassidy posted a photo of the pair making their red carpet debut at the British Fashion Awards in December of that year, calling the night “amazing” in a caption as Payne looked her way with a smitten smile.
In a TikTok posted last month, Cassidy told followers the story of how she met Payne. According to Cassidy, the pair met when she was 23 years old working at Ritual Nightclub in Charleston, South Carolina and she served the 1D hitmaker.
She added that “everything happens for a reason, don’t try to get off work because you want to go to a party, because you never know, you could possibly go meet your future husband.”
